Spelling

ScribeWright checks spelling with Windows’ own spelling engine, in your book’s language. Any language pack installed in Windows Settings works.

As You Type

Misspellings get the familiar squiggle, in the page and in the Code pane alike. Right-click a squiggled word for suggestions and the quick actions: Ignore All (this session), Add to My Dictionary, or Add to Book Dictionary.

Squiggles can be turned off in Preferences ▸ Spelling ("Check spelling as you type"); the review dialog below still works when they’re off.

Reviewing a Whole Book (F7)

Tools ▸ Spelling… (F7) walks every misspelling in the current chapter or the whole book (the Scope list at the top; Rescan sits at its right end): pick an entry, see it in context and its suggestions, then Change / Change All / Ignore / Ignore All, or Add ▾ the word to your dictionary or this book’s. Go To (or a double-click, or Enter on a row) jumps to the word in the editor; right-click a row for the same commands. Change routes through the same editing pipeline as typing, so every view updates and Undo works. The window remembers its size.

Two Dictionaries

  • My Dictionary is yours, on this PC, shared by all your books: your name, your world’s recurring terms. Edit it under Preferences ▸ Spelling ▸ My Dictionary….
  • The Book Dictionary is stored in the .swj and travels with the book: character names, invented places. Open the book on another machine and its words are still known.

Language

The checker follows the book’s Language from Book Setup; pick a preferred default under Preferences ▸ Spelling. If the needed Windows language pack isn’t installed, ScribeWright says so instead of squiggling everything.
